The Wege Prize, an international student design competition, is offering a paid summer workshop for high school juniors and seniors.
The two-week program hosted by Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University aims to engage students in confronting complex issues through whole-systems design thinking, sustainability, and principles of the circular economy, reports BNN.
Each participant will receive a $597 stipend, plus complimentary lunches, the opportunity to produce portfolio-grade design work, and networking opportunities, per the KCAD website.
The program is open to both returning students and first-time participants.
Four teams will form, and they will be tasked with designing a solution to an environmental or social problem.
Previous participants have tackled issues such as shelters for the unhoused, advancing nutritional education for children, and battling toxic algae blooms.
