Pitching to the Limits of Artificial Intelligence

A team of physical therapists at the University of Texas Southwestern has won the first-place prize in the school's AI Innovations Challenge for a product that uses artificial intelligence to improve health care, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Phixer team used machine learning technologies to transcribe doctor-patient conversations, offer diagnostic support, and generate comprehensive visit summaries.

"Since most Phixer team members are physical or occupational therapists with clinical backgrounds, they viewed the challenge as a novel, exciting, and invigorating learning experience," says Hari Vennelakanti, team leader and a certified oncology lymphedema physical therapist.

"The ultimate goal of this initiative was to encourage budding entrepreneurs at UTSW and show them a road map to follow from a brilliant idea to bringing it to market as a product," says a program manager in the Lyda Hill Department of UMed Imaging.
