The small northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya is embarking on an ambitious economic plan that would see it become the first state in the world to have a $10 billion economy by 2028, the BBC reports.
According to the Hill, the state's "Mission 10" plan would see it boost its agriculture sector, boost tourism, improve road connectivity, develop urban development, improve health care, and improve the standard of administration.
It's all thanks to a grant-in-aid request of more than $1 billion from the Indian government, which the Meghalaya government says is unlikely.
The grant-in-aid request, which was presented to the 16th Finance Commission on Monday, would cover a financial shortfall the state is currently facing before it can receive its share of taxes and funds devolved from the central government.
