Webinar Preview: Balchem Unveils Innovative Active Folate for Multiple Health Benefits

If you're one of the 70% of pregnant women in the US taking prenatal vitamins, you may want to check out a new nutritional supplement from Balchem.

It's called Optifolin+, and it contains L-5-methyltetraolate, or L-5-MTHF, which is seven times more effective than other forms of the nutrient and "promotes balanced and effective methylation within the body, showing great potential to regulate activity of the body," Balchem says in a press release.

It's also said to help pregnant women maintain adequate levels of the nutrient throughout pregnancy, as well as reduce the risk of having a baby with brain or spinal cord defects, per the New York Daily News.

"During pregnancy, expecting mothers aim to give their children the best start possible, and adequate folate is a critical aspect of their diets that can help achieve this," Balchem's marketing manager says.

"As we age, we become more aware of our lifestyle's impact on our health and brain are essential health approaches to supporting pregnancy and child development, as well as heart and cognitive health through to adulthood."

(Folate deficiency during pregnancy has been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer.)
