An Arkansas community health center has been chosen as one of just eight to take part in a national program designed to help community health centers find new ways to expand access to healthy foods and improve health for patients, regardless of their ability to pay for health services.

Mainline Health Systems will receive funding and guidance from experts at Abbott and other organizations to improve the health and nutrition of pregnant mothers through a pilot program expanding access to healthy foods through home-based hydroponic plants and maternal-focused community farmers markets, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.

" Nutritious food can help address obesity, diabetes, and heart disease and pave the way for a healthy lifebut one in four children in Arkansas faces food insecurity," says a press release from the National Association of Community Health Centers.

The eight community health centers selected to participate in the National Innovation Incubator program will create and test a new idea to expand access to healthy foods and improve health for patients, regardless of their ability to pay for health services.
